I was very disappointed with my hair.
I was getting married on Waiheke Island on a Sunday morning at 10am, the day after Valentines Day. I anticipated problems with securing different vendors for my inconveniently timed wedding. As Phoenix was very close to my wedding venue, and they seemed professional, I jumped at the chance to secure them, even though I was quoted an extra $50 per person for the early Sunday morning appointment.
Their website recommended have a trial for $90, but I (possibly foolishly) thought that I’d rather have a $90 haircut and allow the hairdresser to get to know my very curly hair this way. A month before the wedding, I booked my haircut and properly introduced myself, and made clear that this was going to be instead of a trial. We talked about different options, and I went home feeling happy and confident.
The morning of my wedding we arrived at the salon, and my hair was a little damp from my shower, but I hadn’t done anything to it, as my hair is curly and needs to air dry. Prior to the morning Heather had mentioned that she would wash my hair first, to give it time to dry and work on my 2 bridesmaids during this time. But, instead she directed me to the makeup chair and worked on my Maid of Honour first. At the time I wasn’t worried, I thought it was obvious that my hair still needed to be washed.
As it turned out, my Maid of Honor was the only one with good looking hair that day.
When it came to my turn, she started combing out my now frizzy hair. After a few minutes of this, it dawned on me that she wasn’t going to wash it. She was going to start styling! I mentioned that it was looking too fluffy, but she said, let her work with it and if I still didn’t like it we could start again.
After I insisted that we wash it, I soon realized time was running out. My hair wouldn’t have time to air dry and I suggested blow drying it with a diffuser. She didn’t have a single hair dryer diffuser in her entire salon. Unbelievable.
After my earlier complaints of my hair looking too fluffy, she WAY over did the hair product and I had crispy curls.
To top it off, she was extremely expensive (with the added early morning fee) and I wouldn’t have minded the expense if my hair had been anything close to what I wanted it to be.
